Our mission is to raise $30,000 to help with educational programming at the Child and Youth Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario. In partnership with RVH, in a fundraising adventure called “From The Rock to the Rockies”, we will be cycling 7600 kilometres (4750 miles) across Canada from Cape Spear, Newfoundland to Vancouver, British Columbia in July and August of 2019. We are thrilled to take on this endeavour to help assist the youth of our area and province.
Why support mental health?
All three of us have been extremely involved with youth for many years. We see the challenges that many youth have as they deal with family issues, illness and poverty. Mental health suffers as a result. Currently, 1 in 5 Canadians will experience some sort of mental health struggle over the course of their lifetime, and each of us will be directly or indirectly affected. In Simcoe County, suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth. Lack of supports and services in our communities contributes to this problem.
